A group of indigenous Tlapaneca people who live in the Tierra Colorada area purchased 25,000 sugar cane cuttings which they planted. After the plants grow for a year and a half, the producers cut the plants and extract the juice, which they boil to make brown sugar. They package the sugar and transport it to cities for sale.
