$2,800 CDN A group of 13 women in Xochiatenco took on the project of “Preparing and Bottling Fruit Syrups and Jams,” with the purpose of taking advantage of the different kinds of fruit – guava, pineapple, and different varieties of banana – that grow in Xochiatenco, but have been under-used. This creates a source of income for the women of the community, where the price of coffee – the main source of income for decades – has drastically diminished. The syrups and jams also improve the diet of the families. Mission Mexico funds helped the group establish their business as they purchased a stove and implements for cooking and preparation of the product.
